<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We were looking for a site that's a source of good kid friendly news to develop their current affairs knowledge. While we found a few from around the world, nothing really was India specific. Shouldn't kids know about the President of India before POTUS, about ISRO before NASA, about Kabaddi before Baseball? That was the thought behind thinking about curating a news page by ourselves. But wouldn't more parents want the same for their kids? But who'll do the news selection? Quid Pro Quo. If you want your kid to benefit, you contribute. A 5 minute contribution is all that'll be needed.

I was so excited that I even went to the kingfisher site and checked out their entertainment section to see which were the movies that were on at that time.. and decided to see “Chak de” and Monster-in-law.

After all the Fiasco and settling down, my first impression of the airlines was Good... the lady at the checkin desk was sweet and helpful and let me check-in beyond their usual closure time...

The seats were comfy.. pretty much the same as in Jet. But I felt the netted bag for foot rest in Jet was more comfy than the pedal like ones in KF.

There were a couple of other hiccups as well...

The in flight entertainment wasn’t working for most part of the journey... Vijay Mallaya gave a nice welcome speech and then I was watching Chak de as per plan ;) and suddenly the screens blanked out in one section of the flight.. Though a few came up after a couple of minutes, most were out for more than 3 hrs... I had to be content with watching the movie from another screen ( thankfully there were subtitles and it was readable from 2 rows behind J) .

The Firang, an Australian named Anna had woken up for some time and was chatting with her for some time.... she waited for some time for the In Flight Entertainment System to start and then went back to her sleep... L

And the AC.. it wasn’t as cool as u normally expect in a flight... I usually see ppl using the blankets provided, when they sleep.. but most of the blankets weren’t opened at all...

Food... again another ok... for breakfast, the so called uttappam was hard and the sambhar wasn’t tasty at all... The previous nights’ dinner was much better..

The best thing abt KF was obviously the airhostess... ;) there were quite a few of them compared to Jet... and they were good...

Well the overall experience wasn’t as good as I had expected after all the “King Fisher, Travel like a king” stuff... Given a choice I wud fly Jet
Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-38281923152751545392009-01-08T22:20:00.000+05:302009-01-08T22:22:50.089+05:30How I almost F**ked it up
Can you believe what I did??? After all that enthu abt going back to India, I went to the airport without my passport???!!!!!!!!!!!

It all started with me taking out the passport to fill the VAT refund forms and I left it on the table.

I checked my travel pouch one final time. The passport section was a little raised. So I assumed the passport was there..

Had asked the Cab to come at 5.30. He came at 6 and after filling petrol and wading thru the London traffic, managed to reach the Airport at 7.15.

I felt something missing on the way and as soon as I got down from the cab, I opened the pouch again to confirm. Again I saw the raised passport section and was convinced everything was there... Went to the check-in desk at 7.30. The lady asked for my passport and I cool’ly opened my pouch and put my fingers inside the passport section and to my horror, just found a few sheets of papers.. I had folded my e-tickets and put it there...

Thank fully I had Mukul and Rahul with me and they immediately called up Dhiraj (I hadn’t bothered to recharge my mobile as I was leaving that day.. L )to check if the passport was at home. Of course it was there, lying on the table... They immediately called up Chaithu and he got his car and the three of them, including Ninad, started immediately(it was almost 7.45 by the time they started).

The desk closes at 9.05. The cab driver who knew the way to Terminal 4 took an hour to reach... Chaithu had taken the car just a couple of days back and had to rely on Tom Tom.. While we usually drive as per the speed limits. But Cab drivers give them a damn and they break just before the speed cameras. I was so scared if they could make it in time.

But thankfully they made good time

08:45 PM: They were within 3 miles. I went to the check-in desk and asked them if they can atleast weigh my stuff and keep everything ready so that as soon as I get my passport, they can gimme the boarding card. After some pleading they agreed and did it.

09:00 PM: My day wasn’t good... The TomTom directed them to Terminal 3 and it was quite some distance away from T4. And it was 9.

09:03 PM: Dhiraj ran to the underground and took the train to T4. The stupid train started only after 5 minutes. And it takes 3 minutes to reach T4

09:05 PM: The lady at the check-in counter wants to close the desk... I plead her to wait just for a few more minutes...

09:08 PM: The train starts.

09:10 PM: More pleading...

09:11 PM: The train reaches T4

09:13 PM: I get my passport and give it to them and get my boarding pass...

09:15 PM: Ran towards the security desk and on the way let my mobile flying... I collected it in 3 parts... thankfully it was just the frame... Vaalzhga Nokia...

09:18 PM: Reached the gate and found lot of people waiting to board... Ufff relief after a looong time... probably the longest hour and a half in my life

The story is not over...

They had given me 2 pieces of boarding pass... And in all the tension, I saw the 2 pieces and thot my seat number of 18H. I went there and sat. After some time another guy came and said “excuse me, this is my seat”. I was like oops... and I checked one of the pieces. It was 28H. I went there and found that that was already occupied and his BP also showed 28H. The airhostess came and checked. She said this 28H is not your seat number sir, your seat number will be in the other piece of Bp they gave you... I rummaged thru all the pockets of my Cargos and gave her that small piece of paper and it said 18K... I had mixed up 18F and 28H to arrive at 18H at the first instance... ufffffff.. so picked up my luggage and went to 18k again...

And another twist... there was this Firang who was in 18G... She was like “Excuse me... Can you do me a favour?? I know it’s asking for too much.. ” and I was thinking ...oh no, no more confusion... she continued.. “I have a friend of mine whose at 19B. If you don’t mind, can you please sit there??”.. 19B was an Aisle and there was another Firang at 19A. So instead of being sandwiched between 2 ppl in 18k, I happily went to 19B and still had got a Firang next to me ;) (She was too tired and slept thru most of the journey is another sad twist to the story... )

Rahul had asked me for a separate blog abt the Kingfisher experience... so more details in that.... J
Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-17657108546337643722008-12-15T17:16:00.000+05:302008-12-15T17:56:12.414+05:30Random. They did the same thing the previous years and the teams came up with various solutions to make the car faster. But one look at the new car built under the new rules, I was shocked.. The car looked like a skeleton. It was more pronounced in the BMW cars. BMW had those cute little horns on the nose and on the engine cover and a lot other small aerodynamic stuff all of which have been stripped off.. The most obvious change is the new front wing which looks lower and wider, making the car look like a Crab and those aweful wings standing behind the car like an Air Traffic Control Tower...
The FIA calls it cost cutting. To stop teams spending a lot for aerodynamics. The withdrawal of Honda will strengthen FIA's calls for cost cutting... The next plan is to introduce standard engines with a lower power in 2010...
Hey isn't F1 supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsports where new innovations are made in the auto industry? His commentry is getting more irritating by the day...
3rd ODI between India and England. Flintoff moves across the stumps to a Y Pathan offspinner, misses it and gets out LBW. What does sunny say?? "I can't understand y Flintoff played that way. He's very strong straight down the ground. Y would he play such a nothing shot"... Ohh come on.. midon was up in the circle and midwicket was open. and it was a safe single. You can't hit every ball down the wicket.

One more during the 2nd ODI. Freddie hits Yuvi for a six and next ball gets LBW trying to sweep him for a single.. Sunny bhai says,"He's just hit a six and now why does he want to play such a shot for just one run." I'm sure he'd have said,"That's very good batting from Flintoff. He hits a siz and then takes a single of the next ball and rotates the strike. ", if Freddie had connected the sweep for a single..

:D one more just as i write this. Ishant bowls a slower delivery well wide of the off stump and Owais shah was stupid enuf not to smack it over point. It was a power play for god's sake... "That's a very good slower delivery and bowling coach Prasad would be proud of it. "A wide slow ball is the last thing a bowling coach will be proud off..

Only wine tastes better as it gets older...
Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-89485100819755696032008-11-15T16:18:00.000+05:302008-11-15T17:08:03.668+05:30Varanam Aayiram
<span style="font-family:"Georgia","serif";mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";mso-bidi-Times New Roman";font-family:";font-size:12.0pt;color:black;">I was waiting for this movie so much that I felt so bad I cudn't get tickets for the first day first show. It’s an amazing feel good kinda movie and just when u think it’s going to make you feel that way all the way…. BHOOOOM!!!! She’s done 10 times better than “Kannathil muthamitaal”. Songs were pretty ok but not great… probably will be better if I hear it a couple of times.. The attention to detail was very good.. I read the story outline and when it said Ajit is a commando and stuff i was a little scared. It didn't sound like Main Hoon na story in that. But the movie was actually watchable. Both the heroes in the movie could hardly dance. So wat did they do. They made the heroes stand in differnt poses, take photo and run those photos in a sequence quickly. It's like those cartoons. Funny it does look like they are dancing sometimes. And Thala's dance. Thaan aadavitaalum than thoppai aadum'nu correct'a prove pannitaaru... and u shudn't forget to watch the Freedom song.. Mannnn he tries to imitate MJ in thriller... hilllarious....Thala pol varuma... :D
Seval..
Only thing u can watch this movie is for Vadivelu's comedy.. other than that... bakwaaas..Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-51089079749840447342008-10-27T20:46:00.002+05:302008-10-27T21:21:26.396+05:30A weekend shorter than i expected....Could make only 2 movies - Aegan and Seval. Enthu for playing tennis meant Lords was postponed to yet another weekend.. almost done with Valahalla. just abt 40 pages remaining. Birmingham trip took almost 6 hrs.. so no NFS, no editing... :(Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-44577270204824203342008-10-25T14:23:00.000+05:302008-10-25T14:41:53.121+05:30So much to do. so little time..Monday i decided I'll do a movie marathon this weekend... atleast 5 movies in theatre. It's saturday morning and 1 down, 4 to go. But the task looks daunting..
I've to leave at 12.30 to the Mecca of cricket(Finally i get to go after 1 year in London). So evening I mite be able to catch one. But hey there are somethings to do...

I promised myself atleast a blog a week. Ok lemme assume this is the one for the week, wat else in remaining?

Have to edit a couple of photos taken in swiss... One for the blog background and another for next weeks blog on learning photo editing.

Now that i have become a member of the local library which has a huge collection of novels, I would probably be tempted to finish atleast one novel a week. Right now it is "Valhalla Rising" by Clive cussler. My sis introduced me to him and i've already read 3 of his novels in a month. I'm becoming a big fan of Dirk Pitt and NUMA.

And there is this NFS prostreet levels to be completed. Atleast one tournament a day.

Got an appointment with Lord Venkateshwara tomorrow.. So off to Birmingham. That's about 9 hrs tomorrow..

And hey where do i squeeze my 2 hrs of tennis this weekend??!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goddd why is there so less hrs in a day????

My movie marathon is slowly turing into a half marathon and most probably will end at half the half marathon distance.....:(
Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-71774940448409145732008-10-20T00:24:00.001+05:302008-10-21T03:39:40.613+05:30A relief to the UAC headache...I've been so tired and irritated to see those annoying dialog boxes that Vista pops up everytime I try to install/uninstall something or change/delete some files on the C Drive. Worst part is it doesn't even give complete information in the dialog. I disabled it once and was rewarded with a host of viruses. Had to reformat my comp and had to enable UAC.
Finally some relief. Was going thru an article in TOI where i came across this new tool developed by Norton labs. I immediately installed it of course after UAC confirmed with me if i really want to install the program. And the next time the UAC dialog box came up when i wanted to remove a program from startup, it gave me quite some info and the best part of the tool, it gave me an option to "remember this". So next time I remove it from the startup, I don't have to give permission to the UAC to do wat i wanted.
And ya here's the link for the Tool..
http://www.nortonlabs.com/inthelab/uac.phpGowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-31693519328927515502008-10-18T16:56:00.000+05:302008-12-02T05:11:11.220+05:30andha naal nyaabagam Part 2... 18/10/08

my second part isn't going to be as interesting or rather I don't remember much stuff..

After we moved to Trichy 8+

Had an altercation with a guy in the first week in the new school(4th std) which almost ended with a fist fight..

A new section was created called A1 and they put me in that. We were all proud to be part of the 'A1' section.. :D

Made my first real friends with whom i'm still in touch.

After 4 years of enjoying the A1 status, they split us in 8th and i ended up in C section. :( . But kinda surprised everyone there by scoring 1st rank in each and every exam thru the year. It included once when i went to the tamil teachers house and fought with her for having given me less marks for a wonderful essay i had written, got 2 more marks for it, and equalled the first rank total.

I had so much power that i used to go and sit on the floor to see wats written on the board or write down from my benchmates untill 9th std when a friend told my mom during an annual day and they dragged me to the doc who was stunned at how i could manage with a 5.5 power.

After wearing contact lenses the world was a brighter place and i remember hitting almost a dozen sixes in one of the matches we played in a ground nearby.

We used to stay on the banks of cauvery river. Once during a monsoon, there was heavy flooding everywhere. Me and my dad went to our backyard and the river was rising right in front of our eyes. Was so exciting and scary at the same time. Thankfully it stopped rising by evening and we were spared.

Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-54318604601237217962008-10-17T16:34:00.000+05:302008-10-21T03:40:48.629+05:30He did itAfter months of agony and wait he finally crosses and milestone and is now the highest runscorer in test match cricket which means he's now on top of both ODIs and Tests. The God also known as Sachin Tendulkar does it on Day 1 of the 2nd test after having missed it by a kitten's whisker(by about .1% of his total runs) in the previous innings...
We've all been waiting for this feat since the the Srilankan tests and somehow I felt it got to Sachin as well... But what the heck.. he's made it now and that's wat matters..
I understand Sachins urge to be on top, be it on top of the bowlers, the hundreds, the totals, but lately he's got this knack of being the no 1 in the wickets list of bowlers. From my immediate memory, it was Monty first ( who got the ball signed by the God), then White in the previous test and now Siddle. There are much more gifts you can give to debutants than gifting them your wickets Sachin...Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29632242.post-56276620592258919542008-10-16T17:22:00.000+05:302008-10-21T03:54:27.433+05:30He and meWe used to be very close friends when i was in college. He used to come to me almost once a month, sometimes even twice.. I've never tried to drive him away from me... in spite of my moms advice.. But since then he's been so irregular that I've been without him for more than 3-4 months at a time... Finally he came back 2 days back and somehow this time i didn't like him.. i wanted him to get away from me.. and this time I've tried sooo many things
- Slept so much more than i usually do
- Taken tablets
- Taken milk with haldi
- Drank Beechams
- Ate Soothers
- Inhaled vicks
still he wudn't let go of me.. Though he's not as troublesome as he was. Still enough trouble to make me write this stupid blog...Gowthamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11671862046153865217noreply@blogger.com1
