Nokia the great!!!!!

Open stretch.... 80+kmph... speed breaker... zooooom and landed cleanly... but the little thing in my pocket continued it's flight and landed on the tarmac.... dum, dadatadam... Dummmmm... combed the area and finally retrieved it in bits and pieces...

Took me about 30 min to find all of them in the highway during peak evening traffic.. By then the phone had been run over by god knows how many vehicles... At first i had no hopes of finding the pieces... found all the pieces scattered over abt 50 mts... :( did some 7-8 rounds to find them all... almost all...

I thot it wudn't work anymore and was hoping i cud atleast retrieve the contacts out of it...

I'd thot abt switching to Nokia 5800 in 6 months time and on the way back from the incident was cursing myself now that i've to shell out 15K for that now itself...

Reached home and just tried to put the pieces of the jigsaw and tried to switch it on and blimey.....

The people connector came up... and it worked just normal.. only that i had to hold the panels together to stop it from falling out... i even spoke to my friend of half an hour...

Now all i have to do is just change the Panel... :D

Coming back to the "almost all..." part... i realised only at home that the the memory card was missing..:( thankfully nothing important stored in it...

Long Live Nokia....

The kingfisher experience

I was all excited about travelling back... I was so excited that I even went to the kingfisher site and checked out their entertainment section to see which were the movies that were on at that time.. and decided to see “Chak de” and Monster-in-law.

After all the Fiasco and settling down, my first impression of the airlines was Good... the lady at the checkin desk was sweet and helpful and let me check-in beyond their usual closure time...

The seats were comfy.. pretty much the same as in Jet. But I felt the netted bag for foot rest in Jet was more comfy than the pedal like ones in KF.

There were a couple of other hiccups as well...

The in flight entertainment wasn’t working for most part of the journey... Vijay Mallaya gave a nice welcome speech and then I was watching Chak de as per plan ;)  and suddenly the screens blanked out in one section of the flight.. Though a few came up after a couple of minutes, most were out for more than 3 hrs... I had to be content with watching the movie from another screen ( thankfully there were subtitles and it was readable from 2 rows behind J) .

The Firang, an Australian named Anna had woken up for some time and was chatting with her for some time.... she waited for some time for the  In Flight Entertainment System to start and then went back to her sleep... L

And the AC.. it wasn’t as cool as u normally expect in a flight... I usually see ppl using the blankets provided, when they sleep.. but most of the blankets weren’t opened at all...

Food... again another ok... for breakfast, the so called uttappam was hard and the sambhar wasn’t tasty at all... The previous nights’ dinner was much better..

The best thing abt KF was obviously the airhostess... ;) there were quite a few of them compared to Jet... and they were good...

Well the overall experience wasn’t as good as I had expected after all the “King Fisher, Travel like a king” stuff... Given a choice I wud fly Jet

How I almost F**ked it up

Can you believe what I did??? After all that enthu abt going back to India, I went to the airport without my passport???!!!!!!!!!!!

It all started with me taking out the passport to fill the VAT refund forms and I left it on the table.

I checked my travel pouch one final time. The passport section was a little raised. So I assumed the passport was there..

Had asked the Cab to come at 5.30. He came at 6 and after filling petrol and wading thru the London traffic, managed to reach the Airport at 7.15.

I felt something missing on the way and as soon as I got down from the cab, I opened the pouch again to confirm. Again I saw the raised passport section and was convinced everything was there... Went to the check-in desk at 7.30. The lady asked for my passport and I cool’ly opened my pouch and put my fingers inside the passport section and to my horror, just found a few sheets of papers.. I had folded my e-tickets and put it there...

Thank fully I had Mukul and Rahul with me and they immediately called up Dhiraj (I hadn’t bothered to recharge my mobile as I was leaving that day.. L )to check if the passport was at home. Of course it was there, lying on the table... They immediately called up Chaithu and he got his car and the three of them, including Ninad, started immediately(it was almost 7.45 by the time they started).

The desk closes at 9.05. The cab driver who knew the way to Terminal 4 took an hour to reach... Chaithu had taken the car just a couple of days back and had to rely on Tom Tom.. While we usually drive as per the speed limits. But Cab drivers give them a damn and they break just before the speed cameras. I was so scared if they could make it in time.

But thankfully they made good time

08:45 PM: They were within 3 miles. I went to the check-in desk and asked them if they can atleast weigh my stuff and keep everything ready so that as soon as I get my passport, they can gimme the boarding card. After some pleading they agreed and did it.

09:00 PM: My day wasn’t good... The TomTom directed them to Terminal 3 and it was quite some distance away from T4. And it was 9.

09:03 PM: Dhiraj ran to the underground and took the train to T4. The stupid train started only after 5 minutes. And it takes 3 minutes to reach T4

09:05 PM: The lady at the check-in counter wants to close the desk... I plead her to wait just for a few more minutes...

09:08 PM: The train starts.

09:10 PM: More pleading...

09:11 PM: The train reaches T4

09:13 PM: I get my passport and give it to them and get my boarding pass...

09:15 PM: Ran towards the security desk and on the way let my mobile flying... I collected it in 3 parts... thankfully it was just the frame... Vaalzhga Nokia...

09:18 PM: Reached the gate and found lot of people waiting to board... Ufff relief after a looong time... probably the longest hour and a half in my life

The story is not over...

They had given me 2 pieces of boarding pass... And in all the tension, I saw the 2 pieces and thot my seat number of 18H. I went there and sat. After some time another guy came and said “excuse me, this is my seat”. I was like oops... and I checked one of the pieces. It was 28H. I went there and found that that was already occupied and his BP also showed 28H. The airhostess came and checked. She said this 28H is not your seat number sir, your seat number will be in the other piece of Bp they gave you... I rummaged thru all the pockets of my Cargos and gave her that small piece of paper and it said 18K... I had mixed up 18F and 28H to arrive at 18H at the first instance... ufffffff.. so picked up my luggage and went to 18k again...

And another twist... there was this Firang who was in 18G... She was like “Excuse me... Can you do me a favour?? I know it’s asking for too much.. ” and I was thinking ...oh no, no more confusion... she continued.. “I have a friend of mine whose at 19B. If you don’t mind, can you please sit there??”.. 19B was an Aisle and there was another Firang at 19A. So instead of being sandwiched between 2 ppl in 18k, I happily went to 19B and still had got a Firang next to me ;) (She was too tired and slept thru most of the journey is another sad twist to the story... )

Rahul had asked me for a separate blog abt the Kingfisher experience... so more details in that.... J

So much to do. so little time..

Monday i decided I'll do a movie marathon this weekend... atleast 5 movies in theatre. It's saturday morning and 1 down, 4 to go. But the task looks daunting..
I've to leave at 12.30 to the Mecca of cricket(Finally i get to go after 1 year in London). So evening I mite be able to catch one. But hey there are somethings to do...
I promised myself atleast a blog a week. Ok lemme assume this is the one for the week, wat else in remaining?
Have to edit a couple of photos taken in swiss... One for the blog background and another for next weeks blog on learning photo editing.
Now that i have become a member of the local library which has a huge collection of novels, I would probably be tempted to finish atleast one novel a week. Right now it is "Valhalla Rising" by Clive cussler. My sis introduced me to him and i've already read 3 of his novels in a month. I'm becoming a big fan of Dirk Pitt and NUMA.
And there is this NFS prostreet levels to be completed. Atleast one tournament a day.
Got an appointment with Lord Venkateshwara tomorrow.. So off to Birmingham. That's about 9 hrs tomorrow..
And hey where do i  squeeze my 2 hrs of tennis this weekend??!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goddd why is there so less hrs in a day????
My movie marathon is slowly turing into a half marathon and most probably will end at half the half marathon distance.....:(

But the car keeps going and going and he drifts, drags, accelerates, he does everything with the car. But i did not understand y the hell he didn't take his leg off the damn accelerator. won't the car automatically slow down and come to a stop???

The Marathon Ends - fiiiiinally!!!!!

My movie marathon spanning 15 days and about 20 movies finally came to an end thanks to my Schengen Visa (that'll be a separate blog entry :)) appointment on Tuesday. The appointment at the French Embassy was at 8.30 in the morning and the place was about 45 min from East Ham. A lot of last minute prepns - printouts, photographs etc meant I went home pretty late on Monday. I was pretty tired and coupled with the fact that I had to get up early; I slept off without a movie. The next day went late to office after getting the Visa and my PM said we have a demo to the user tomm morning. So had to sit in office till about 7 to set up all the data. And then went home and my new mouse was working after 3 days.
(The story behind the new mouse being, my roomie used a laptop in Infy office to write a test and brought the mouse from there by mistake. I had been using it to play games. He returned it last week and I had ordered a new one. But some how it stopped working even after installing the reqd drivers) so played Command and conquer for about an hour and went to sleep earlier than usual as I had to get up early at 7 ;) and come to office. So again no movie...
Today the demo went on well... They were pretty happy with the first part of the Demo. They were actually looking for only that one. The other stuff which we had prepared, they were not much interested as they were more technical. They were like, “Ok you’ve done it. Fine. Next”. Our next demo on the requirements which they gave will be sometime next week. And it mite not be so much work too.
Anyway today we are going out for dinner. My ex-colleague said we’ll all meet up for dinner. So depending on the time I come back, I’ll have to decide if I will have time for another movie. But I doubt coz I haven’t been cooking lunch for the last 2 days. I should cook atleast for tomm... let see... Will keep you posted... ;)

Knock knock i am looking to marry

Guy: You know i'm planning on buying a Honda City
Girl: Wowww...why all of a sudden??
Guy: My girl friend wants me to own a nice car...
Girl: girl friend... hmmmm... did you ask her if she likes the car you are going to buy?
Guy: She's already said Wowww....
Girl: so who is she??
Guy: Who ever she is, i really like her ...
Girl: So tell me.
Guy: You should know. you tell me..
Girl: hmmmmm... not a bad idea ...
Guy: Yesssssss.....

Isn't this so sweet?? Yup that's how the proposal happened... ok before you guys call me to ask who the girl is, lemme tell you, it's not my story... Am sure most of you wud've guessed it... just wanna give some build up... a lil eye catching status will surely increase the number of ppl who are reading my blog u see... he he.. Ellam oru vilambaram dhaan...

Btw this dialogue was in a movie, "Knock knock I am looking to marry". Haven't heard of it?? Most ppl wudn't have... Even I hadn't until 5 min before I started seeing thanks to Sharanya, a junior I suddenly happen to meet up on Orkut... shucks, I keep deviating... how very tru I wrote in the about me in my home page... oh no not again... now back to the topic...

It was a Kollywood English movie, something like monsoon wedding types, about a Tamil girl living in b’lore and is in the “have to meet some guy whom my parents have arranged” phase. The movie isn’t that great. The same old story- parents are looking for a guy, girl doesn’t like anybody, meets a guy somewhere, falls for him, different caste, parents don’t agree, says sorry to him. Here most movies end with the Hero showing the parents he’s a real hero by protecting them from some big villain or fighting the father of the girl( who had 20 years back killed his father’s uncle’s dog), hits him to the floor, raises the weapon and spears it into the ground just near the head, and the father suddenly says “Naan ujaala’ku maariten” and gives the girls hands to the hero (ufff that was one loooooooong sentence. The co-coordinator in my effective writing course had told me I shouldn’t write too long sentences; else the readers may not understand it. But I love writing loooooooong sentences… gowthammmm enuff back to the story). Ok. This movie doesn’t end like that. The girl continues seeing more guys and always moves arnd the house carrying a sad face. The parents unable to see her like this do a “Naangalum ujaala’ku maaritom”. The girl goes to the guy’s house and they hug and kiss and there ends the movie.
Ok that was the story line. Nothing gr8. Very low budget movie. So no gr8 camera work. No gr8 music. Most of them are probably friends of the director/producer. An upper middle class family speaking only English is a lil difficult to digest. They cud’ve put in a little more Tamil into the dialogs. But after all this too, the movie is nice. The main pair has acted well. The girl reminds me of some actress. Can’t get the name immediately… anyway do watch it if you are free. I picked it up from you tube.

This must be my hottest blog. In the sense, Sharanya told me about it at 7. I was as usual vetti then, having just returned from “The Water Horse” movie. Started watching the movie at 7.15.it was over at arnd 9 and here I’m done with the blog by 9.45. So suda suda blog…. idhoooo

sudden craze for movies..

Ok this is yet another blog born out of boredom... as usual no work at office... so thot will blog a bit about my new found craze for movies... Since I got my cineworld pass, paying 13£ pm for unlimited movie, I’d taken it up to watching at least a couple of movies a every weekend... and an occasional movie during the weekdays when I’m done with my cooking early... but some how it all started last Saturday with "The great debaters", I had been watching movies over movies @ an average of more than 1 a day.. after the great debaters which unfortunately got stuck at the last half hour, I did a back to back of Bheema, the much awaited(looooooong awaited)flick by Vikram and Trisha, which turned out to be less than ordinary. I had to skip the last 15 min so that I wudn't miss the start of the next movie, “Sunday”. A comedy movie played by Ajay Devgan and Arshad warsi. It was another ok kinda movie... came back and watched a bit of pathfinder, the movie about a Viking guy brought up among the Native Americans, who then hunts down the Vikings who had destroyed his village. Finished the movie on Sunday and then watched the Bourne identity, based on Robert Ludlums famous novel. Our “Vetri vizha” was also based on the same novel.

Monday was rescue Dawn, a movie about the escape of a group of American POWs, headed by an American navy pilot during the Vietnam War, who ultimately is the only person to make it out successfully.

Tuesday was 28 days later. The UK version of “The Resident Evil”, but seriously lacking the thrill of it.

It was “Kingdom of Heaven” on Wednesday. An epic based on the crusades for Jerusalem. Orlando Bloom stars as a blacksmith who gets to know he’s the son of a knight and then inherits his fathers fort uses his tactical knowledge to hold against the might of the Saladin’s army.

Thursday it was Hitman. The movie about the ultimate assassin who was groomed to be one since birth.

Friday was Fracture. A movie of how Anthony Hopkins, a meticulously-minded aeronautical engineer who shoots his wife, whom he gets to know, has an affair with a cop and then confesses his crime to the same guy. He then breaks the case against him, which looks like a pretty open and shut one. Gets out of jail and signs the Coupe de grace of his wife, who’s in coma. But there were a few holes in his defence which the young and successful lawyer (whom Hopkins had put to shame in this case) finds out and gets him back behind the bars.

Saturday I watched “No country for old men”, about a person who finds 2 million dollars at a place where a drug deal has gone awry with all the participants dead and two people, one trying to kill him for the money and the Sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) who tries to save him. Then it was “Michael Clayton”, a superb law thriller film starring George Clooney, who’s torn between saving his own life and his friend. A must watch movie..

Sunday went to watch “Over her dead body”, a romantic comedy where a wife whose dies in a freak accident on their wedding anniversary, comes back as a ghost and tries to protect her husband from the psychic whom he had contacted coz of his sister. He ultimately falls for the psychic and his wife takes it upon her to prevent them getting together and succeeds. In the end realises her ultimate goal for returning back is to make her husband happy and patches them up together.

And finally signed off the weekend with “American Pie”. The hilarious no-logic story of 4 guys who make a pact to lose their virginity before they complete their high school.

I still have a couple of movies lined up for the week... let’s see how long this goes on... :D

Death of an Umbrella....

Doesn't this look like a bat caught in a stick.. :) that's the last few minutes of my umbrella, before another gust of wind blew the wind out of it.. hmm i don't know why they manufacture such bad umbrellas... not that it was costly... but being sold in London, i'd expect it to withstand atleast winds as fast as it was today, which is pretty common out here.. More often than not, i find umbrellas becoming rain water harvesting basket. Imagine the umbrella getting flared out on the other side, facing the sky. Perfect for collecting water.. :)
coming back to the fate of my umbrella, it became too wet with the steel rods poking out in all directions and became really impossible to handle. So i had to give it a farewell in the bus itself... Good bye darling... :)

Oops we are runners up :O

I still can't believe how we won the first round and boom!!!!!! we won the second one too and we were in finals.. yup there were only 10 teams and we got a first round bye.. We were royally thrashed in the finals by a team which is faaaaaaaaaar more supirior than us. 2 of them play for Infy team!!!! and they all played in proper jerseys and football studs... professionals u see..
we were a group of 5 ppl, 1 hasn't played football since his college, 2 haven't played since their school times and me and Lokesh have never really played Football...
The first 2 rounds were so similar.. we had a solid defense and i haardly had to do any work.. oh ya i was the goalie.. and it went to penalty shoot out..
Game 1:
i saved the first shot and then let the other 2 in. Lokesh and Mukul scored off their chances.. i took the last strike and bang i scored.. it was a nice shot low to the left of the keeper.. Hurrrayyyyyy!!!! i have won the first football match..
Game 2:
I let in the first shot. second shot brushed my out stretched hand and hit the post and the third shot was wayyyyyy off target..(lucky me ;) ) Mukul scored in his shot and lokesh missed.. so it fell on me to take the final shot.. if i score, we are thru and if i don't then we go on to sudden death.. i was so tensed and hit the ball as hard as possible.. it hit the wrong side of my foot but still went onto hit the the net on the top right corner... yooooooooooooooooooooo.. we were running arnd the ground like crazy...
was a very good feeling and we never really felt for having lost the finals.. it was anyway a foregone result...
